WE Vancouver It Girl: Kelsey Dundon
Kelsey Dundon, 30
Writer and founder of Northill Creative Communications; creator of lifestyle blog The Anthology
Where are you from? Beautiful Vancouver.
Describe your style: I like to mix and match — high with low, vintage with new, casual with dressy — and I wear a lot of colour and prints.
What’s in your purse at this very moment? In my (overstuffed) M0851 tote is my Moleskine dayplanner, iPhone, a wallet filled with more receipts than George Costanza’s, and a billion lip glosses (I especially love Keihl’s Lip Balm #1).
Proudest accomplishments? I once went a week without having any sugar. Pretty proud of that.
Describe your personal power outfit? Really high heels; they hurt so good.
Most sentimental wardrobe item? To keep my husband happy I should probably say my wedding dress.
Where do you shop for everyday staples? I own a lot of J.Crew — I live in their Toothpick jeans.
Where do you look for that after-hours ‘wow’ outfit? Either a vintage shop or Barneys in Seattle.
Dream splurge item? A shoe closet filled with Nicholas Kirkwood beauties.
What fashion event do you look forward to the most every year? Vancouver’s doing great things with Eco Fashion Week.
Fashion pet peeve? It drives me nuts when people don’t dress up for the opera. Is nothing sacred?
Favourite:
• Drink: A Caesar, please — extra spicy.
• Food dish: To cook — Baha shrimp tacos. To order — grilled calamari in Croatia. It’s the best!
• Store/designer: I’d be quite content with a closet full of Balmain.
• Perfume: Stella McCartney ‘Stella’.
• Blog/magazine: I’ll be a Vogue girl for life.
• Vancouver street: Main Street.
• Spot to people watch: English Bay.
• Local charity: The Amy Hurn Scholarship Fund, which was set up through the Alexandra Foundation in memory of a friend who was a much-loved teacher.
International style city? Stockholmers always seem to get it right.
What was your first trophy as a kid? I once came in second in a badminton competition. There were only two teams in the competition.
If you had your own TV show, it would be called? Whatever the Travel Channel would like it to be called.
Something that surprises people about you? People are always surprised to find out I’m outdoorsy (I actually love camping) and that I’m handy around the house.
Last time you cried and why? Watching Dear John. How embarrassing is that?
How do you unwind? By watching bad movies (see above)
What’s your style/beauty life saver? Caffeine — I find I look my best when I can actually open my eyes.
Women look their best when: They put on lipstick; it’s an instant outfit.
People tell you you look like: Snow White — I’m pasty as pasty can be.
If you could have coffee with a fashion icon, past or present, who and why? It’s such a cliché to say Audrey Hepburn, I know, but she just seems like such a chic little delight.
